Vera Cruz Amethyst gets its name from its origin, the Los Vigas Mine, in Vera Cruz, Mexico and is quite a rare stone.

Amethyst most commonly forms in clusters or crystalline masses, however, Vera Cruz Amethyst forms as single or clustered stalactites, which are individual elongated crystal points with brilliant lustre which are often double terminated, some have scepter tips and many contain amethyst phantoms within their crystal shafts. On rare occasions, a water or gas bubble may also be present within the crystal. Graduated colouring can be seen with the darker colouring towards the top of the point while the pale, softer colours are merged into the stone.
