These are produced from natural raw stone so they are not perfect and flawless. Natural inclusions, cracks, crystallization and pockets are all visible and all part of the natural stone. Please handle with extra care as they will shed loose particles. This is a very soft, raw gemstone which has not been treated in any way. Colour will transfer from this stone during handling so please keep away from soft furnishings.
Azurite is a very soft stone and is named for its deep “azure blue” colour. It is a copper carbonate mineral found in the upper oxidized portions of copper ore formed in masses, nodules, tabular or prismatic crystals. Its colour ranges from bright to deep blue into shades of indigo, and may contain streaks of light blue. It has been ground into pigment for paint and used as a dye for fabric for thousands of years
Azurite is often found in nature mixed with Calcite and Malachite, another copper carbonate mineral, this one with a bright green colour.
