Fire opal is well known to be sourced from Mexico and is mined in the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Julisio, Michoacan, Queretaro and San Luis Potosi.
In México the colour of Opals varies from yellow to reddish colours, displaying iridescent rays of light, forming the phenomenon known as the “fire opal”. Mexican Fire Opal gets solidified when water gets into the silica-rich lava of the volcano.
