Jade is a gemstone made of two different minerals Jadeite & Nephrite. Nephrite tends to be a dark green colour while Jadeite comes in a wide range of colours including green, brown and lavender. Other Jades, including African Jade and New Jade are not real Jade, these are varieties of Serpentine or Amazonite.
