Barite / Baryte (BaSO4), a sulphate of barium (Ba) is the major industrial source of barium, and the heaviest non-metallic mineral. The barite from Rancho Palos Verdes normally displays a beautiful bladed or ‘desert rose’ habit and characterized by numerous intergrown, thin, and elongated Barite crystals that have grown outwards from a central point, creating a textured, somewhat rosette-like formation. The colour ranges from delicate and appealing off-white to deep creamy beige. The individual blades, while tightly packed, show distinct definition, and their surfaces possess a subtle, characteristic lustre, allowing light to play across the many facets.

These specimens are in their natural raw form and shedding of small crystals is normal. Natural inclusions, cracks and pockets are all visible and all part of the natural stone. Please handle with extra care. These are very fragile stones.
