Citrine is a yellow variety of Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. While Citrine does occur naturally, the vast majority of Citrine is actually heat-treated Amethysts and it is this heat treatment that produces the vibrant yellow colours. Most rough Citrine is very pale in colour.
